Modi Ventures hosts Membrane with Sir Richard Branson

Sahir Ali and Sir Richard Branson

Modi Ventures and Founder / General Partner Sahir Ali had the incredible privilege of co-hosting the second edition of Membrane on Necker Island, BVI alongside Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Unite. This intimate gathering brought together 40 of the brightest minds at the intersection of health and medicine to tackle some of the world's most pressing challenges and opportunities.

The name "Membrane" is inspired by biology—just as a cell membrane enables organelles to collaborate and create life, this event fostered meaningful connections across diverse disciplines, including research, technology, philanthropy, entertainment, and business.

We were honored to host luminaries such as James Allison (Nobel Laureate and pioneered immunotherapy), Dean Kamen (the most prolific inventor of our time), Larry Brilliant (renowned epidemiologist and technologist), Lyn Lear (Emmy-nominated filmmaker and philanthropist), Peter Lee (President, Microsoft Research), Lane Dilg (Head of Partnerships, OpenAI), Richard Klausner (former Director of NCI, Founder of Altos Labs, Grail), Ron DePinho MD (Past President, MD Anderson), Regina Spektor (Grammy-nominated singer), Salman Ahmad (founder of Junoon Band and philanthropist), Junaid Bajwa (Flagship Pioneering), Pam Sharma (renowned oncologist), Seth Hain (Epic Systems) and incredible women healthcare leaders (Dr. Geeta Nayyar, MD, MBA, Kaycee Kalpin, Lynda Chin) and many other visionaries driving global impact.

Over four nights and five days, we engaged in transformative discussions on groundbreaking innovations—from programmable medicine redefining cancer treatment and longevity to leveraging AI and tackling global healthcare equity.
